Insulated Glass Units, also known as double-glazed, are a type of window glass that consists of two or more panes of glass separated by a spacer and sealed around the edges to create a single unit. The space between the glass panes is typically filled with air or a gas, such as argon, which provides insulation and reduces heat transfer.

The Insulated Glass Units offered by K&K have been specifically crafted to offer exceptional energy efficiency, comfort, and noise reduction. By utilizing these units, you can minimize your expenses on heating and cooling while enjoying a more pleasant indoor environment. Insulated Glass Units are widely used in residential and commercial buildings for their energy-saving properties, noise reduction, and improved comfort. They can also be customized with different coatings such as Low-E and tints to enhance their performance and aesthetics.

Glass options

Metal Spacer

Our standard spacer for all standard shape, standard and performance units. Two pieces of glass are separated by a metal spacer and sealed to provide a hermetically sealed air or argon gap. It has a primary water vapor proof seal and polysulphide secondary seal. The airspace is provided with a desiccant to prevent condensation forming within the unit.

  • Structural silicone as a secondary seal is available on request

Super Spacer

Typically used for shapes, Super Spacer comprises Thermoset structural foam containing no metal, an integrated 3A desiccant and an advanced multi-layer vapor barrier structure. It is a warm edge solution that minimises the transfer heat escape path for optimal performance.

Considerations

Glazing compounds, sealants and gaskets need to be approved by K&K Glass for suitability.

Frame design - K&K warranty relies on frame design in accordance with AS/NZS4666. Do not expose edges to standing water and moisture as this can result in seal failure. The frames must incorporate impervious weather seals or a self draining system.

Wind load and safety determine the type and thickness of glass required - refer Australian Standard AS1288 or New Zealand Standard NZS4223.

Installation must be in accordance with AS/NZS4666. Please refer to the technical glazing specification on resource centre further installation instructions.

Visual characteristics and manufacturing tolerances – K&K IGU’s are manufactured to AS/NZS4666. Also refer to the resource centre for specification and installation information, including distortion and reflection from changes in exterior and interior pressure and temperature.

K&K Standard Insulated Glass Units

K&K Standard Insulated Glass Units

The K&K standard range of Insulated Glass Units (also known as double glazed units) are made with two layers of glass, either clear annealed float or clear toughened glass separated by an aluminum spacer and air or argon filled gap.

The perfect entry point, providing increased comfort, energy efficiency and safety when compared to traditional single glazed windows and doors typically used throughout Australia.

K&K Performance Insulated Glass Units

K&K Performance Insulated Glass Units

The K&K Glass range of Performance IGU’s provides you with a choice of high performance glass to suit any custom requirement providing significant design and energy performance benefits.

The K&K range of Performance Insulated Glass Units have been designed to provide superior energy performance, comfort and noise reduction.

To improve energy efficiency, select either Comfortplus™ or a Low-E Clear glass. If noise is a concern, reduce the noise outside by adding an acoustic layer like ComfortHush™ or VLam Hush™.

The K&K range of Performance IGU’s provides you with choice of high performance glass sourced locally from Viridian and some of the world’s leading glass manufacturers, please see a few options detailed below to assist with your decision:
